What To Look For In A Home Projector

Presently, the word digital appears on billboards, magazine adds, television commercials and in so many other locations that we would be hard pressed to go a day without some sort of point of reference to the word. Technology has improved with blinding speed over the course of the past twenty years, and this is demonstrated when examining current home theater systems. Not too long ago, a home theater system was thought of as good if you had a mammoth, grainy television and a pleasing stereo surround sound system. But these days, a home theater is more pricey and complicated than ever before, with spending $10,000 is barely a ripple in the pool of finding a good home theater.

Home theater LCD projectors have varied immensely since their unveiling to the market. Originally, the size and price tag alone of projectors made them unlikely for a possible home theater, particularly given their minimum $50,000 price tag. The users were frequently in very large business settings or in major schools, like Universities and Colleges. These days, however, affordable and portable projectors can be bought from an electronics or online, and offer a thrilling experience to those who thought they’d never afford a home theater system.

The first decision that must be made is where, exactly, you will find room for your multimedia projector. The projector you buy must fit the size of the room while also creating a perfectly sized picture on the screen. You’ll also need to think about where the projector might be situated, which can be either on a table or on the ceiling.

Brightness is a crucial requirement that varies greatly according to certain models. A 1,000 lumen projector would be brilliant enough for a space lacking windows or natural light. If the room will let light in, you will need 1500 lumens or, advantageously, more.

The clarity of the image is often referred to as resolution.  Many different resolutions exist for home projectors. The lowest resolution out right now is called SVGA which sits at 800×600. This resolution will be adequate for smaller picture sizes, but spending the money on a higher resolution would be a wise investment. Resolutions are usually standard across the board, including XGA (1024×768), WXGA (1280-768), SXGA (1400×1050), 720p (1280×720), 1080p (1920×1080), and 1080i. 1080p is the current best when it comes to full HD and produces amazing picture. For many years, 1080 1080 is a citation to the number of lines of resolution.

You could be in for a revelation if you’re looking for a projector, seeing as how many low cost home LCD projectors there are. In some examples, $1500 will advance your movie viewing experience to the next level. As soon as you have decided upon your household theater projector, there is still much more work to be done. To create the quintessential home theater experience, you will need a quality audio system and, of course, the most comfortable of comfortable chairs.

Fitting your LCD TV

You might miss a trick when you purchase an LCD TV. All seems fine and dandy, you’ve checked the configuration of the TV, you’re pleased with it’s HD capabilities, you’ve figured out the remote and setup your freeview. But have you hung it properly on the wall?

What you need, before you get to this stage, is to look through some LCD TV brackets and to have the right one ready to roll when you get home. There’s nothing worse than having a brand new piece of kit all boxed and ready to go and then not being able to use it fully because you’re missing one vital piece of kit. Having your wall mounted bracket on hand will save you the headache of sorting out the mess later. Ideally you’ll have installed lcd TV wall bracket before your LCD TV even arrives. If you’re installing it onto plaster board you’ll need wall plugs to keep it from falling off into nothingness. Installing the brackets onto a brick wall doesn’t require such things, but you’ll probably need a more powerful drill to make the holes.

There’s no shortage of creative places you can hang the TV. Above your bed, in your bathroom, in your kitchen, on your ceiling, inside a wardrobe. The house is your oyster when it comes to hanging your LCD TV, but don’t let your imagination run totally wild, hanging it above the shower is probably not a great idea…

There’s loads of brackets you can choose from, but in our experience it’s better to fork out slightly more money on a fully movable bracket. People often think they won’t want to move their TV once it’s installed, but a time will come when you want to move it for some reason. It will more than likely involve a Nintendo Wii..

Fixing a TV to the wall

One thing that’s so often overlooked after buying a flatscreen TV is thinking about how and where you’re going to hang it. You may have some idea over were abouts you intend to put the TV, but did you consider exactly how you’re going to put it there? What you need is a plasma wall mount bracket, and a little bit of know-how and your TV will be off the floor and on your wall in no time.

Installing plasma TV brackets is childsplay. I say that because I’ve done it plenty of times myself. A crucial part is choosing the correct bracket for the job, and arguably, the number of brackets to choose from is somewhat of a minefield. Just make sure you ask your supplier for loads of advice, they (should) know the TV models inside out. Tell them what you’ve got and you should get all sorts of options back; a flat panel bracketcan fit snugly to the wall, some move up and down, and brackets with full motion for pointing your TV any which way you please.

The best solution is to go for a bracket with full motion. People often think they’ll never want to move their TV once it’s installed but I guarantee that one day come you’ll say “we should have got the bracket that lets you move it!and you’ll kick yourself. It will probably involve a Wii.

Once you’ve got your bracket, installing will be much easier than thought. You’ll need to drill a few holes, and if you’re fitting it to plasterboard you’ll need to plug the holes with wall plugs. {Fix the bracket to the wall, screw in the screws, and slip on your plasma screen}. This stuff is (almost) easy enough for a children to do it!

I love Home Theater System

If you want to be able to watch movies and listen to music just like you’re at the movie theater or in a concert hall; and you want it all in your own living room, you need a home theater system. You can get a home theater system at your local electronics store or you can get it online. A home theater system will give you complete control over your entertainment needs and the individual components are often so powerful that you’ll never go back to a regular TV or stereo again. As far as pricing, this can vary as there are different models and components. It’s all up to you as to what you want to add to your home theater system.

Shopping for Home Theater System

Before you head out and get a dvd home theater system, or stereo system, or any other type of home theater system, you need to have a budget in mind. Don’t just expect to go to the store and figure you’ll decide once you get there how much you’re going to spend. That’s how you get into trouble. Once you see how much there is to add to your home theater system, and once you see how persuasive the sales people can be, it can be very easy to max out your credit cards on the ultimate home theater system. Therefore, do your research and make sure you know how much everything costs before you shell out big bucks for a lot of components you may not ever use. You can do your own research by shopping online and comparing prices.

What You Need In A Home Theater System

While you’re comparing prices, you’ll also want to think about what you want in your home theater system. Do you want a DVD player, a flat screen TV, a stereo system, or all of the above? Do you want surround sound speakers? Do you want theater seats with speakers built in? As you can see there is no limit to the amount of components you can add to your home theater system. The more you add the more awesome your home theater system will be. It’s also much more expensive. It’s all up to you and how much you can spend to make your home theater system great.

Setting up your home theater system is very easy. The components are usually very user friendly and you usually just have to plug each component into the other. You’ll be glad you got your home theater system once it’s set up and ready to go and remember you can always add more components as time goes by; you don’t need to get everything up front just to be able to enjoy a theater experience right in the comfort of your own home.

Getting the Right Power Point Projector

For someone who is not tech minded, purchasing a presentation projector can be overwhelming with all the current choices. Hence this article has been written with the neophyte in mind. If you go looking on your own, the first thing that the salesman will tell you is about resolution and brightness and will use other accepted industry buzzwords, but now you’ll know what they are talking about.

Pixels make up both the image you see on your computer screen and that of any image projected by a digital projector. The number of pixels in an image is it’s resolution, this is often determined initially by the video source. In the best case scenario, your projector will operate natively at the same resolution as your video source, in this case the laptop containing your power point presentation.

It used to be that VGA (640X480) was the “hot” resolution but as in all computer items that has been replaced by SVGA (800×600) and XGA (1,024×768). You may even hear about SXGA (1,280×1, 024) that will give you even greater resolution, but tends to run on the expensive side.  Someone who is multi lingual, may be fluent in several languages yet they are most fluent in their native language which is often their first language. It’s the same way for projectors regarding resolution. Many projectors can operate at several resolutions but they are optimized to operate at their native resolution.

For on the go projector presentations, brightness (measured in lumens) is one of the most important projector parameters to consider.  Lumens refers to the intensity of the generated light, so if you are going to be using the projector for a large audience or in a sunny room, the higher the lumens should be. Large sized venues or semi-lit screening areas require a very bright projector, something over 4000 lumens would not be unheard of in this situation.  Small audience—dark room—1,000 lumens. When you see the term ANSI lumens, just know that ANSI is a common standard method of measuring lumens.

“Throw distance” is another term of interest, it refers to the distance you can have the projector from the screen with a focused picture.  Projectors that reside significantly further than 15 feet away from the screen  typically have long throw or large throw lenses. With a short throw power point projector, your can make a presentation with the projector behind you, close to the screen and not have to worry about casting a shadow over your wonderful power point graphics.

Also important when using projectors for power point and similar presentations is interface connectivity and resolution, your computer needs to be compatible with your projector. You should obtain your computers native resolution and write this down, note if it’s SVGA or XGA, also you’ll need to know the connection standard by which you can connect computer and projector, many projectors have a computer in port and  with the common standards in place, this isn’t much of a worry. In any case, still check to make sure you have the proper ports and cables at your disposal to connect your devices. Again, when everything is compatible, that’s one less thing to worry about.

In your projector search, you want to look at a really wide range of items and narrow it down from these; find a place that allows you to view many projectors in a sitting. Projectorselect.com is one site that meets this criteria. Now that you know all about some of the basics about Power Point Projectors, you are armed with the knowledge you need to visit sites like ProjectorSelect.com, browse and compare the multitude of projectors available. Good luck.

16mm Projectors – The Essentials & Finding Good Used Equipment

Do you have years of old 16mm film that you just cannot let go of and that you want to watch over and over again? There was a time when 16mm projectors were simple enough to obtain and incredibly commonplace for producing home videos. As the years passed by the 16mm projector fell out of the loop and most people have turned to digital. In this day and age, it is such a quaint and nostalgic experience to be able to watch films on an old 16mm projector.

They were introduced back almost a century ago when silent movies were taking off in the Great Depression. The earliest versions of the projector were produced by Bell & Howell and Eastman Kodak, whom turned out to be the most influential voices in the business. In the beginning, silent pictures only needed a projector that could function at approximately 16 to 18 feet per second. However, “talkies” began to take over the film world and projectors needed to operate at 24 feet per second.

16mm projectors in the 1970s used tubular lamps, sometimes called “Mazda lamps”, most often. Standing six inches tall, these big lamps possessed approximately 750 watts. Later on, the Tungsten-Halogen lamps became the criterion projector that was known for its proficiency. With Tungsten lamps, you could have just a 250 watt lamp, and it would easily be brighter than a tubular lamp that was 750 watts. the reel sizes of these projectors also varied depending on the user, some were 2000 feet for home movie makers while 6000 foot reels were often used by professionals.

It has become easier to find a good second-hand 16mm projector in the past ten years, thanks to internet sites like eBay. Before the internet, finding a cheap 16mm projector was almost impossible and if you really needed it you had to be really lucky. Most people went to second hand stores, flea markets and yard sales hoping to find a used projector; it was also difficult to find parts. All of this hard work paid off however when you are finally watching those old home movies that was only experienced by die-hard collectors a few years ago. When the internet arrived, especially eBay, people had a new way to sell their old goods. 16mm projectors that had been sitting in attics for decades suddenly rose to the surface of commerce as a desireable piece of equipment for the new generations. Now 16mm projectors are not only popular collector’s items; they’re in demand as well for the people who have old home movies still laying around.

If you’ve been wishing you could watch your old movies again, but no longer have a projector, you can find one with the click of a mouse. Visiting eBay or other collector’s websites to purchase 16mm Projectors and get great deals in order to enjoy those great home movies that you haven’t watched in years!
